Cash Credit Pricing
Cash/Credit Pricing is used to allow a site to sell fuel at different fuel price levels based on whether the sale is paid by Cash or Credit.
Overview
Cash/Credit Pricing is used to allow a site to sell fuel at different fuel price levels based on whether the sale is paid by Cash or Credit (e.g. sites will often set the credit fuel price higher than the cash fuel price to offset the credit transactions fees for the site).
What Is a Price Tier?
At a fuel site, the price a customer pays for fuel depends on how they pay. A price tier is the label that tells Commander which fuel price applies to a particular payment card or transaction type.
Credit
The customer pays the standard credit card price — typically the highest listed price at the pump.
Cash
The customer pays the cash price — typically lower than the credit price, often by several cents per gallon. Many sites display both prices on the price sign.
Fleet / Other
Some sites have additional price tiers for fleet accounts, loyalty members, or special programmes. These are configured according to the site's specific setup.
If the site is using different fuel prices for cash and credit, they must disable (or uncheck) the Ignore MOP Conflictsetting in Fuel Configuration > Site Params.
The price level for each card type can be configured in the Payment Controller > EPS Configuration > FEPCard- Cash Credit Pricing by Card Type configuration screen.
If no configuration is done for the price level by card type, debit and prepaid cards default to cash fuel price level and all other card types default to credit fuel price level.
Using Cash/Credit Pricing
Prepay Transactions
Amount Prepay: If the transaction is tendered by cash, the customer dispenses fuel at the cash fuel price level at the pump. If the transaction is paid by credit, the customer dispenses fuel at the fuel price level configured for the card type (e.g. debit cards can either be configured at cash or credit price level).
Volume Prepay: For volume prepays, the cashier must select a fuel grade and a fuel price level when they ring up the fuel prepay. If the transaction is tendered by cash, the MOP entered must match the fuel price level selected by the cashier. If the transaction is paid by credit, the price level configured for the card type must match the fuel price level selected by the cashier. If there is a price level conflict, then an error message appears indicating "MOP Conflict".
Postpay Transactions
When the Ignore MOP Conflict parameter is enabled (or checked), sales can be tendered using any MOP regardless of the original fuel price level of the sale.
When this parameter is not enabled (or not checked) and if the transaction is tendered by cash, the MOP entered must match the fuel price level. If the transaction is paid by credit, the price level configured for the card type must match the fuel price level. If there is a price level conflict then an error message appears indicating "MOP Conflict".
DCR Transactions
Transactions initiated at the dispenser card reader are authorized at the fuel price level that has been configured for the card type that is used.
Configuring Cash/Credit Pricing
If the site is using different fuel prices for cash and credit, disable (or uncheck) the Ignore MOP Conflict setting in Forecourt > Fuel > Site Parameters.
Configure cash and credit price amount for each fuel product service levels in Forecourt > Fuel Prices form.
Price Tier allows credit cards to be setup for cash pricing for fuel. Configure Price Tier in Payment Controller > EPS Configuration > > FEPCard Type form.

The price tier will be determined by the matching card table entry. If the card table entry does not specify a price tier, then the payment method determines the price tier. For example, Debit method of payment will map to CASH price tier.
Configuring Fuel Prices for 2 Decimal Places
Go to Forecourt > Fuel > Fuel Config Pending > Site Parameters and disable “Force .9 Cents Per Gallon”.
Go to Forecourt > Fuel Prices Pending and change all existing product prices with third decimal place to 0 (eg: from $2.152 to $2.150).
Go to Forecourt > Fuel > Fuel Config Pending > Site Parameters and change “PPU Decimal Position” and “Total Decimal Position” to “2”.
Go to Forecourt > Fuel Prices Pending and change the prices of the product per gallon to the $XX.XX format for both Tier One and Two Prices.
Restoring Site-Level Price Tier Control for Valero
This update restores the ability for Valero fuel site operators and administrators to configure price tier settings for payment cards — including the Valero Private Label Credit Card (PLCC) — directly from the Commander Configuration Client on-site.
A previous Commander update had locked (greyed out) the price tier field for all sites using the BUYPASS payment processor, preventing site staff from making any adjustments. For Valero, this was a significant issue because Valero's policy specifically allows — and requires — individual sites to set the appropriate pricing tier for their PLCC card independently. This update resolves that conflict.
ℹ Note: This fix applies to Valero sites only and is available in Base 055.02.10 and Base 056.03.02. Sites running other fuel brands (Marathon, BP, Exxon, Sunoco) are not affected by this change.
When a customer pays with a specific card — such as the Valero PLCC — Commander checks which price tier is assigned to that card type and charges the customer accordingly. Setting the right price tier for a card is therefore important for ensuring customers are charged the correct fuel price.
The Valero PLCC and Pricing Policy
Valero's Private Label Credit Card (PLCC) is a co-branded card issued directly by Valero for use at its network of fuel stations. Valero's corporate policy requires that all sites offering the Valero PLCC must give cardholders a pricing benefit — either:
Setting the card's price tier to Cash (so the cardholder pays the lower cash price), or
Offering a Point-of-Purchase (POP) discount — a per-gallon reduction applied at the time of the transaction.
Importantly, Valero leaves it to each individual site to decide which approach they use. Some sites prefer to assign the Cash price tier to the PLCC card. Others prefer to use a POP discount. Both are valid — but either way, the site administrator needs to be able to configure this setting in Commander.
⚠ Important: Valero's policy requires that PLCC cardholders receive either the Cash price tier or a POP discount. Sites must have one of these two options configured. Without a pricing benefit, PLCC transactions may not comply with Valero's programme requirements.
What Was the Problem?
A Commander update introduced for another fuel brand locked the price tier field in the Configuration Client — the tool site administrators use to manage Commander settings. This meant the price tier dropdown for card types appeared greyed out (read-only) and could not be changed.

Nothing else about the payment flow, pricing calculation, or transaction handling has changed. This update only restores access to a configuration field that was inadvertently locked.

Two Ways to Offer a Pricing Benefit for PLCC Cardholders
Now that the Price Tier field is editable again, Valero sites have two methods to comply with Valero's PLCC pricing policy. Choose the approach that best fits how your site operates:
Option 1 — Assign the Cash Price Tier to the PLCC Card
Set the Valero PLCC card's price tier to 'Cash' in Commander's Configuration Client. When a customer pays with the Valero PLCC, Commander automatically applies the cash price — the lower of the two prices displayed at the pump.
How it works
The PLCC card is configured to always use the Cash price tier in Commander. Customers see and pay the cash price with no additional steps at the pump.
Visible to customer
The customer pays the cash price displayed on the pump price sign — no separate coupon, code, or action needed.
Configuration
Set once in Commander Configuration Client. Applies automatically to every PLCC transaction at the site.
Best for
Sites that want a simple, automatic pricing benefit that requires no additional transaction steps for customers or staff.
Option 2 — Configure a Point-of-Purchase (POP) Discount
Set up a POP discount for the Valero PLCC card in Commander. Instead of changing the price tier, a per-gallon discount is calculated and applied at the time of the transaction, reducing what the cardholder pays.

How to Configure the Price Tier in Commander
The steps below describe how to set the price tier for the Valero PLCC card (or any card type) using Commander's Configuration Client. You must have the appropriate administrator access level to change card type configuration.

Open Configuration Client
Log in to the Commander Configuration Client on the site controller or the designated configuration PC. Use your site administrator credentials.

Navigate to Card Type Configuration
From the main menu, navigate to the payment or card type configuration section. The exact menu path depends on your Commander version — look for 'Card Types', 'Card Configuration', or 'Payment Configuration'.

Locate the Valero PLCC card entry
Find the entry for the Valero Private Label Credit Card in the card type list. This may be labelled 'Valero PLCC', 'Private Label', or a similar name depending on how your site is configured.

Open the card type settings
Click or select the PLCC card entry to open its configuration settings. The Price Tier field should now be active (not greyed out) and available for editing.

⚠ Important: Changes to card type configuration take effect immediately after saving. Customers who are currently in the middle of a PLCC transaction will complete at the price tier in effect when their transaction started. The new setting applies to subsequent transactions.
Who Can Make This Configuration Change?
Price tier configuration in Commander's Configuration Client is a site-level setting that requires administrator access. The table below describes who typically has this access at a Valero site:

Frequently Asked Questions
Why was the price tier field greyed out in the first place?
A Commander update introduced for another fuel brand locked the price tier field to prevent site-level changes to payment configuration. This worked correctly for that brand but unintentionally affected Valero sites, which need to manage the price tier at the site level. This update corrects that.
Do I need to make any changes after upgrading to the fixed version?
Only if your price tier setting was changed or lost during the period when the field was locked. Check the current price tier setting for the Valero PLCC card in Configuration Client after upgrading and update it if needed.
Which option is better — Cash price tier or POP discount?
Both are accepted by Valero's programme. The Cash price tier is simpler to set up and apply automatically. Will other brands at my site be affected?

What happens when my site upgrades to Base 57.x in the future?
In Base 057.x and above, payment configuration (including price tier) for most brands is managed through the C-Site portal rather than the local Configuration Client. When Valero moves to 57.x, the specific requirements for managing PLCC pricing at the site versus corporate level will be defined in a future update. No changes are needed now.
What if I cannot see the Price Tier field at all in Configuration Client?
Confirm that your site has been updated to Base 055.02.10 or Base 056.03.02. If you are on the correct version and the field is still not visible, contact your VeriFone support representative — there may be a configuration issue specific to your site.

Feature Limitations
Sites can be configured to take fuel prices with either two or three decimal places; $xx.xx or $x.xxx. Sites cannot have mixed decimal positions while using a single Verifone Commander.
At two decimal sites, prices that have 3 decimal places (eg. $4.299) will only be calculated at the 2 decimal amount (eg. $4.29).
By default, sites are configured for 3 decimal places in $x.xxx format.
Troubleshooting
If the site is using Cash/Credit pricing and did not ensure the Ignore MOP Conflict parameter is disabled (or unchecked), customers are able to select cash price level at the pump and pay with credit MOP for postpay transactions. This would result in the customer receiving the lower cash price even though they are paying by credit.
