Carbon 10 Quick Installation Guide

This guide takes you from an unopened carton to a Carbon 10 that is powered, connected, loaded with paper, and ready to accept a payment.

The Carbon 10 requires a Wi-Fi connection. A wired Ethernet connection is also supported, as described in step 3 below.

Before you begin, confirm you have all devices, cables, and accessories listed below.

The merchant display, customer-facing display, and contactless reader, supplied as one head unit with its stand.

One thermal roll for the printer built into the stand.

External power supply with an attached DC barrel connector lead.

Mains cord that connects the power supply to a wall outlet.

RJ45 cable for connecting the terminal to a wired network.

Quick Setup Guide

Insert the Card in the Stand Base

Open the cover and insert the card

Rest the terminal face down, swing the small cover at the rear of the stand base upward (A), and slide the card into the slot behind it as shown in the magnified view.

Close the cover

Swing the cover back down (B) until it sits flush with the base.

Attach the Rubber Feet

Turn the base upside down and press a rubber foot into each of the four recesses at the corners.

Connect the Ethernet Cable

Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the RJ45 port in the port bay, next to the power connector, and plug the other end into your network wall jack.

Connect the Cash Drawer

Plug the cash drawer cable into the RJ12 port in the port bay, to the right of the USB ports, and connect the other end to the RJ12 or RJ45 socket on the cash drawer.

Connect the Power

Plug the DC barrel connector into the power port marked with the lightning symbol in the port bay (A), connect the AC power cord to the power supply (B), then plug the cord into a wall outlet (C).

Load the Receipt Paper

Release the printer cover

Press the release catch on the side of the printer cover (A) to let the cover swing open.

Insert the paper roll

With the cover open, lower the paper roll into the compartment so the loose end feeds out over the front (B).

Pull the paper out

Pull a short length of paper out past the open cover (C).

Close the printer cover

Press the cover closed (D) until the latches on both sides engage, as shown in the two magnified views.

Tear off the excess paper

Pull the protruding paper upward against the tear edge to remove the excess (E).

Mount the Terminal on the Stand

Lower the terminal onto the stand and press down on both sides until it seats.

Take a Payment

Tap a contactless card

Hold the card flat against the contactless symbol on the top of the terminal.

Swipe a magnetic-stripe card

Draw the card through the magnetic-stripe reader along the top edge of the terminal, stripe facing down.

Insert a chip card

Push the card chip first into the slot on the side of the terminal, and leave it in place until the transaction finishes.
