Environmental & Safety Guidelines

Follow these guidelines to ensure safe installation and reliable operation of the device:

  • Install the device in a clean, dry, and customer-accessible location, away from excessive heat, dust, humidity, moisture, chemicals, oils, and sources of magnetic interference.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, heat-emitting equipment, and unstable surfaces to prevent equipment damage or personal injury.

  • Keep the device away from water and do not place it on unstable carts, stands, or tables.

  • Read and understand all safety instructions before installing the device. Do not proceed if any instructions or warnings are unclear.

  • Do not install or operate the device if any components are missing or damaged. Improper installation or misuse may result in equipment damage, personal injury, or warranty invalidation.

  • Use only Verifone-approved accessories and power supplies to minimize the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.

PIN Protection Measures

To help protect cardholder PIN confidentiality during PIN entry:

  • Position the device to prevent unauthorized observation of the PIN-entry process.

  • Adjust the device angle to minimize the risk of shoulder surfing.

  • Ensure in-store security cameras are positioned so that the PIN-entry keypad is not visible.

NOTE: The area of visibility should not be larger than a cone taken from the number 5 key at an angle of 45° and covering an area of 270° directly in front of the user.

Inside the Shipping Carton

Open the shipping carton and carefully inspect the contents for signs of tampering or shipping damage. A tampered or damaged device may not function correctly or may operate in an insecure manner.

Unpacking the Shipping Carton

1

Inspect the shipping carton

Examine the shipping carton for any visible signs of damage or tampering.

2

Verify the shipment

Confirm the authenticity of the shipment by verifying the tracking number and order details against the purchase documentation.

3

Open the shipping carton

Carefully unseal and open the shipping carton.

4

Verify the contents

Verify that all components are present and undamaged. The shipping carton includes:

  • V310

  • Cable

  • Paper roll

5

Remove protective packaging

Remove all protective packaging from the device and its accessories.

6

Remove the protective film

Peel off the protective film from the device display.

7

Retain the packaging

Keep the shipping carton and packing materials for future transportation, storage, or servicing of the device.

Periodic Inspection

Periodically inspect the device for signs of tampering. Check for the following:

  • Wires protruding from the device.

  • Foreign objects inserted into the smart card reader or magnetic stripe reader.

  • Unusual bulges below the magnetic stripe reader or an additional magnetic stripe read head visible from the side.

  • Damaged or missing tamper-evident labels.

  • A Tamper Warning message displayed on the screen.

Device Features

Familiarize yourself with the device features before continuing with the installation process.

Installing or Changing SIM/SAM Card

1

NOTE: Insert the card with the card’s gold contacts facing away from you, towards the unit.

Examining Connection Port

The V310 device has one primary USB-C port used for power and download.

Using the Battery

The V310 device utilises a dual-cell Li-ion battery with the following features:

  • The battery incorporates a safety circuit that prevents damage from overcharging, over-discharge, or overheating.

  • It activates when the battery is left unused in the device for extended periods.

  • The battery provides power to the security circuit when the V310 device has no external power source.

Connecting the Terminal Power Pack

Connect the V310 device to the provided USB cable, and plug the other end into any USB charger head for initial charging.

Each V310 device is supplied with a power supply cable. Use the USB-A to USB-C cable to connect the device directly to a USB outlet to charge the battery. The V310 unit has a universal USB-capable port.

Loading a Paper Roll

Install a paper roll before you can start transactions that require a receipt.

The V310 Stand uses a roll of 40 mm x 58 mm, single-ply, thermal-sensitive paper.

A pink out-of-paper indicator line appears on the edge of the paper before the end of the roll. After this line appears, there is enough paper remaining on the roll to perform at least one more transaction.

To install a paper roll

1

Charging the Battery

After unpacking your V310 device, connect the power pack to the unit and allow it to charge fully. Refer to the Using the Battery section for more details.

Battery Life

Charging and discharging the battery will cause normal wear on the battery.
