Markdown versions of documentation pages are available by appending `.md` to page URLs; this page is available as [Markdown](https://docs.verifone.com/hardware-products/hardware/engage-devices/ux1-3-4xx-series/ux4xx/ux412-installation-guide/device-setup.md). # Device Setup This section outlines the setup procedures for the UX412 controller and UX402 antenna unit covering the following segments: ## Selecting Unit Location Use the following guidelines when selecting a location for the UX412 controller and UX402 antenna unit: * Select a location convenient for the customer. * Avoid dusty, hot or damp locations. * Choose the antenna unit location near the controlling unit for ease in setup and troubleshooting. {% hint style="warning" %} Avoid placing metallic objects at the front and around the card reader. *Évitez de placer des objets métalliques à l'avant et autour du lecteur de carte.* {% endhint %} {% hint style="danger" %} For safety, do not string cables or cords from your installation cabinet or housing across a walkway. *Pour des raisons de sécurité, ne faites pas passer de câbles ou de cordons depuis votre armoire ou boîtier d'installation. à travers une passerelle.* {% endhint %} ## Environmental Factors The UX402 front panel is dustproof, fade-proof, and water-resistant in accordance with the IP65 rating only when mounted as directed. ## Unpacking the Shipping Carton Open the shipping carton and carefully inspect its contents for possible tampering or shipping damage. 1. Remove the items from the shipping carton. The standard package contains: * UX412 Controller Unit. * UX402 Antenna Unit. * One SMA (RF) coaxial cable. * One RJ45 communication cable to connect the Antenna Unit to the Controller Unit. * Clamping Plate for Antenna Unit (Applicable for certain M Level P/N). * Nuts and Washers. Refer to [Accessories and Cables](/hardware-products/hardware/engage-devices/ux1-3-4xx-series/ux4xx/ux412-installation-guide/accessories-and-cables.md) for more information about related accessories and cables. 2. Remove any protective tab before mounting the unit {% hint style="warning" %} Remove any protective plastic over the front of the Antenna unit before use, or the unit may not work properly. *Retirez tout plastique protecteur sur le devant de l'antenne avant utilisation, ou l'appareil pourrait ne pas fonctionner correctement.* {% endhint %} 3. Save the shipping carton and packing material for future repacking or moving of the device. {% hint style="danger" %} Do not use a unit that has been tampered with or otherwise damaged. This unit comes equipped with tamper-evident labels. If a label or component appears damaged, immediately notify the shipping company and your Verifone representative or service provider. *N'utilisez pas un appareil qui a été altéré ou autrement endommagé. Si une étiquette ou un composant apparaît endommagé, informez immédiatement la compagnie maritime et votre Verifone représentant ou fournisseur de services.* {% endhint %} ## Examining Device Features Before you continue the installation process, review the features of the Controller and Antenna Unit (see Figure 1 and Figure 2).

### Antenna Unit Features The front of the UX402 Antenna Unit shows the following: * Customer-view indicator LEDs that denote successful or erroneous transactions through the LED color lighting and combination. \ When the unit is ready to accept a transaction, the CTLS logo and first LED from the left will light up. When you tap your card, all the LEDs will light up and the buzzer will sound for about 2 seconds, prompting the user to remove your card. * The CTLS logo shows the general area where users can tap their cards to perform payment transactions. * The clear protective screen, keeps the CTLS area safe from scratches during the installation procedure. Make sure you remove this (using the tab) after successfully mounting the UX402 Antenna Unit.

The reverse side of the UX402 Antenna Unit shows the following: * RJ45 host communication connector. * SMA (RF) antenna connector. * Four mounting posts. * Clear adhesive cover. Remove this cover prior to mounting the UX402 Antenna Unit to aid in adhesion to the installation panel. ### Controller Unit Features The Controller Unit features the following ports:

* SMA Port * RJ45 CTLS (I2C/GPIO) * USB (Type C) * USB (Type A) - (Client or Host) * LAN with 2 LEDs * Power port 9V-43V DC * SAM Card compartment (4 SAM Card Slots)
## Switches There are 2 switches on the UX412: One Customer Switch and one Service Switch on the controller unit.
### System Mode Activation The Service Switch gives administrators System Mode access to the Controller Unit. To enter System mode, press the service switch for approximately 3 seconds and release. Use only if you have the proper authorization and equipment to open system mode. Please contact your Verifone representative for details. ## Mounting the Antenna Unit The UX402 Antenna Unit is designed to be front-mounted to an installation panel, without further need for any external mounting devices. {% hint style="warning" %} For optimal installation, the thickness of the installation panel should be approximately 2 mm. *Pour une installation optimale, l'épaisseur du panneau d'installation doit être environ 2 mm.* {% endhint %} {% hint style="info" %} Your mounting surface may have different installation instructions. Refer to your mounting device's user guide for further instructions. {% endhint %} 1. Remove the clear protective film from the back of the unit using the tab provided. 2. Align the unit's stud bolts with the stud holes of the installation panel.

3. Slot the bolts through the installation panel and on through to the EVA clamping plate (VPN PPL159-417-01-A). 4. Secure the unit with M4 washers and bolts. Tighten the bolts using the recommended tightening torque of 5.0 kgf.cm (0.49 Nm or 4.3 lbf.in). {% hint style="warning" %} Avoid placing metallic objects at the front and around the card reader. *Évitez de placer des objets métalliques à l'avant et autour du lecteur de carte.* {% endhint %} 5. Remove the clear protective screen from the front of the unit using the tab provided. ## Mounting the Controller Unit This section shows how to attach the Controller Unit to the installation panel for stability and security. {% hint style="warning" %} UX412 can be installed on both metallic and non-metallic environments. Do not start a contactless transaction until it is installed correctly on the panel. *L'UX412 peut être installé sur des environnements métalliques et non métalliques. 1. Align the Controller Unit mounting holes to the installation panel holes. 2. Insert four screws and tighten the bolts using a recommended tightening torque of 5.0 kgf.cm (0.49 Nm or 4.3 lbf.in). ## Connecting the Antenna Unit to the Controller Unit Use the following cables to connect the Antenna Unit to the Controller Unit: * SMA cable, 0.8 m (VPN CBL159-302-03-A) * RJ45 to RJ45 (VPN CBL159-314-01-B) {% hint style="info" %} For EMVCo L1 compliance, please use the provided cables. {% endhint %} Both connections are necessary for using the UX412 to operate. 1. Connect one end of the SMA coaxial cable to the Controller Unit first and connect the other end to the Antenna Unit. 2. Connect one end of the RJ45 plug to the rear of the Antenna and the other end to the Controller Unit.

{% hint style="info" %} To avoid any damage to the unit, make sure to use only coaxial cable provided by Verifone when connecting the two devices. To disconnect cables, use the same steps described above in reverse. If exchanging cables, use a Verifone-approved cable. See [Accessories and Cables](/hardware-products/hardware/engage-devices/ux1-3-4xx-series/ux4xx/ux412-installation-guide/accessories-and-cables.md) for cable ordering information. {% endhint %} ### Contactless Support This Antenna Unit supports the global contactless program specifications from American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, ISIS Smart Tap, and Google Wallet with virtually no changes to existing payment hardware or software. {% hint style="warning" %} Observe standard precautions in handling electrostatically sensitive devices. Electrostatic discharges can damage the equipment. Verifone recommends using a grounded anti-static wrist strap. *Respectez les précautions standard lors de la manipulation d'appareils sensibles à l'électricité statique. Verifone recommande d'utiliser un bracelet antistatique relié à la terre* {% endhint %} ## Installing SAM Cards You can find 4 SAM slots on the Controller Unit, located under a removable protective cover (see Figure 7). You may need to install a security access module (SAM) card or replace the old card: 1. Disconnect the device from all power sources including the external sources. 2. Slide out and lift the compartment cover. The SAM cardholders are now accessible.

3. Install the SAM card by carefully sliding it into the slot until fully inserted.

{% hint style="info" %} Before inserting the SAM card, position it as shown in Figure 8, with the card's gold contacts facing inward. The SAM card has a notch on one corner to ensure that it fits into the connector base in only one way. {% endhint %} 4. Close the SAM cardholder compartment cover. 5. Power up the device after inserting all the cards into their designated slots. ## Connecting Cables The UX412 Controller Unit rear panel holds several interface ports for power and communications. Use this section to see how the Controller Unit connects to the Antenna Unit. {% hint style="info" %} To get the correct connection cables, please refer to [Accessories and Cables](/hardware-products/hardware/engage-devices/ux1-3-4xx-series/ux4xx/ux412-installation-guide/accessories-and-cables.md). {% endhint %} ### Connecting to Host Devices This section discusses the cable requirements for connecting the Controller Unit with the following host units: * Connecting to a Vending Machine * Connecting to a PC **Connecting to a Vending Machine or PC** User can connect the Controller Unit to a host Vending Machine (VM) or a PC with any of the following connection types: * USB Type A * 10/100 Ethernet For more information regarding the card reader configuration and the cabling needs, contact the local Verifone service provider. ## Connecting Power Supply Verifone ships power supplies with the UX412 on request. Any questions about which power supply to use, contact the Verifone representative. For more information, refer to [Accessories and Cables](/hardware-products/hardware/engage-devices/ux1-3-4xx-series/ux4xx/ux412-installation-guide/accessories-and-cables.md) chapter. {% hint style="warning" %} Using an incorrectly rated power supply can damage the unit or cause it to malfunction. Verifone recommends the PWR159-00X-01-A power packs. See [Specifications](/hardware-products/hardware/engage-devices/ux1-3-4xx-series/ux4xx/ux412-installation-guide/specifications.md) for power supply information. *L'utilisation d'une alimentation électrique mal évaluée peut endommager l'appareil ou provoquer un dysfonctionnement.* *Verifone recommande les blocs d'alimentation PWR159-00X-01-A.* *Voir les spécifications pour les informations sur l'alimentation.* {% endhint %} Attach and route all cables between the UX412 and UX402 and all peripheral units before connecting to the power source. {% hint style="info" %} To protect against possible damage caused by lightning strikes and electrical surges, Verifone recommends installing a power surge protector. {% endhint %} ### Power Connections The UX412 connects to external power using a power pack (PWR159-00X-01-A) connected to the power port on the Controller Unit. **To connect to a power source:** Connect the power cable to the power port on the UX412 Controller Unit and the other end to the power source.

When the UX402 antenna unit is ready to accept a transaction, the CTLS logo and first LED from the left will light up. ### Conducting a Contactless Transaction To conduct a contactless transaction, hold the card (within 4 cm) or gently tap against the surface of the contactless antenna, marked by the logo.

After you tap your card, all the LEDs will light up and the buzzer will sound for about 2 seconds, prompting you to remove your card. The contactless unit uses various audible and visual confirmations to confirm transactions. {% hint style="info" %} The actual audible and visual confirmations may vary depending on regional and customer requirements. {% endhint %} --- # Agent Instructions This documentation is published with GitBook.
