Environmental and System Requirements

This section outlines the cable and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) requirements for the Commander Site Server.

NOTE: Installation of the Commander Site Server must be performed by a Verifone Authorized Service Contractor (VASC).

Choosing a Location

The Commander Site Server is typically installed beneath the counter or in the back office. When selecting a location, ensure that it meets all applicable installation and safety requirements.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of electrical shock or damage to the unit:

• Do not install or operate the Commander Site Server near water sources, including bathtubs, washbowls, kitchen sinks, laundry tubs, or swimming pools.
• Do not install or operate the unit in wet or damp areas, such as wet basements.
• Do not operate the product during electrical storms.
• Keep the unit away from electrical appliances or equipment that may cause excessive voltage fluctuations or electrical noise. Examples include air conditioners, neon signs, high-frequency or magnetic security devices, and electric motors.

Hardware Requirements

• Commander Site Server
• C18 R2
• Network infrastructure, including an intranet, cable/DSL Ethernet router, or network connection. The required number of network switch ports depends on the number of C18 R2 connections.

Cable Requirements

• Ethernet cable from each C18 R2 to the router.
• Additional Ethernet cable from the network switch to the router, if a switch is used.
• RS-232 cables for connecting peripherals, such as printers.
• Null Modem Adapter. System-wide devices establish direct connections with the Commander Site Server.
• For peripherals such as the car wash controller or tank level sensor, an RS-232 standard cable (PN: 13836-xx) is required for connection to the Commander Site Server. Devices like the Fuel and Network can be directly linked to the Commander Site Server.

Recommended Equipment

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS): Verifone recommends connecting the Commander Site Server to a UPS rated at 400VA or higher.

Inside the Shipping Carton

Upon opening the shipping carton, meticulously examine its contents for any signs of tampering or shipping damage.

Verify the authenticity of the sender

Verify the authenticity of the sender by checking the shipping tracking number and other details on the product order paperwork.

Unseal the carton box

Inspect the carton contents

Conduct a detailed inspection of the shipping carton contents. The carton box includes the following components:

• Commander Site Server
• Power supply
• AC Power cord
• Software License

Remove the wrapping

Remove all the wrapping from the device and its components.

Preserve the shipping carton and packing materials

Preserve the shipping carton and packing materials for potential future repacking or relocation of the device.

WARNING: Do not use a tampered or damaged unit. The device is equipped with tamper evident labels. If you observe any damage to a label or component, promptly inform both the shipping company and your Verifone service provider.

Front Panel

1. System Status Display (2x20)

This is the illuminated rectangular LCD display located on the front panel of the Commander Site Server. It provides information such as the application, version, and base level.

2. Lock

The device supports the use of a commercially available lock to provide an additional layer of physical security.

3. System fan

An internal system fan helps regulate the system temperature and prevent overheating during operation.

Side Panel

1. Reset Switch

Reserved for emergency situations and should not be activated unless instructed by the Verifone Technical Support Center.

• Hardware Reset: The hardware reset button is accessible through a pinhole.
• Soft Reset: Press and hold the reset button for at least 3 seconds to initiate a power-off sequence.

2. Console Port (RS-232/RJ45)

This port facilitates the connection between a PC/Laptop and the Commander Site Server. Communication occurs at 19200 bps 8N1 and grants access to a serial diagnostic connection and boot-up functions.

Used only by the Verifone Authorized Service Contractor (VASC) or similar.

3. DIAG

Four piano-style switches, the first switch from left toggles between normal boot mode and Diagnostic Kernel (DK) boot mode (normal = UP, DK = DOWN).

Do not change the switch settings unless instructed by Verifone Technical Support.

4. Dual 7-Segment Status Display

This feature exhibits codes using a 7-segment or OLED display (2 × 7-segment/OLED) representing the current system state, with "A9" being displayed during normal operation mode.

5. Battery Charge

Indicates available battery capacity.

• Green: Sufficient capacity for one or more graceful shutdowns
• Red: Less than one graceful shutdown remains. Do not install software or disconnect power until the LED turns green
• Blinking: Battery is charging
• Solid: Battery is not charging

6. System Heartbeat LED

Pulses on and off to indicate normal operation.

7. Power LED

A steady green light indicates that the Commander Site Server is powered on.

8. Battery Health

Indicates the estimated remaining battery life.

• Blinking red: Less than 20% remaining
• Solid red: 20%–50% remaining
• Blinking green: Less than 50% remaining
• Solid green: More than 50% remaining

Rear Panel

1. Payment port: This port is provided for Internet connection
2. COM ports A1- (1-8) and COM ports A2- (1-8)
3. USB Ports (USB 1 and USB 2): There are 2 USB 3.0 ports available
4. LAN N: This port is designated to connect to the router/network switch
5. COM ports COM 1 to COM 8: 8 COM ports are available
6. DC Power: To supply power to the Commander Site Server

Connecting Commander Site Server to C18 R2

• Connect C18 R2 to the router using an Ethernet cable.
• Connect Commander Site Server to the router using an Ethernet cable.
• Connect the power brick to the C18 R2 DC Power port; connect the AC power cord to the power brick and then to an appropriate electrical outlet.
• Connect the power brick to the Commander's DC Power port; connect the AC power cord to the power brick and then to an appropriate electrical outlet.
