# Device Setup

This section outlines the setup procedures for the Victa Full Feature Base, covering the following segments:

## Safety Instructions

1. Prior to connecting the equipment, thoroughly read and understand all instructions. Do not proceed with the installation until all instructions and warnings have been understood.
2. Ensure that there are no missing or defective parts do not use any defective parts. Verifone holds no liability for damage or injury resulting from improper installation, misuse, or failure to adhere to safety instructions, which may void the warranty.
3. Use only peripherals recommended by Verifone to avoid the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.
4. Avoid using the device near water.
5. Do not place the unit on an unstable cart, stand, or table, as it may lead to serious personal injury or damage to the equipment.
6. Avoid using the device in areas with excess heat, dust, humidity, moisture, caustic chemicals, or oils.
7. Keep the device away from direct sunlight and anything that radiates heat, such as a stove or a motor.
8. Do not use the device outdoors.

## Periodic Inspection

1. Regularly check the product to ensure ongoing safety.
2. Inspect the device daily for signs of tampering.

## Electrical Considerations

1. Avoid using this product during electrical storms.
2. Disconnect the device from its POS terminal before cleaning.

Due to the risk of electric shock or damage to the terminal, do not use this equipment near a water source, for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink or laundry tub, in a wet basement or near a swimming pool. Likewise, avoid using this product during thunderstorms causing power cuts. Avoid placing the terminal near electrical devices or other units that could cause large voltage fluctuations or electrical interference, such as air conditioners, neon signs, high-frequency safety devices, or electrical equipment.

## Selecting Location

Use the following guidelines to select the best location for the Victa Full Feature Base.

### To Select a Location

Choose a location convenient for the merchant:

* Far from heavy metal objects.
* A flat support surface.
* Near a power outlet and the terminal or computer that connects to the device.

## Inside the Shipping Carton

Upon opening the shipping carton, meticulously examine its contents for any signs of tampering or shipping damage.

## Inspecting the Features of the Unit

Prior to proceeding with the installation process, familiarize yourself with the features of the device.

Observe standard precautions when handling electrostatically sensitive devices. Electrostatic discharges can damage this equipment. Verifone recommends using a grounded anti-static wrist strap.

The Victa Full Feature Base indicates the charge status of the device placed on the base as below:

* Pulsing Red LED = Charging
* Green LED = Fully Charged

## Power Supply

The power supply to be used is the one that comes along with the Victa Portable or the Mobile device. The interface used is USB-C to provide power to the Victa Full Feature Base.

Using an incorrectly rated power supply may lead to potential damage to the device or cause it not to function as specified. Before proceeding with troubleshooting, it is crucial to verify that the power supply being used to power the device aligns with the specified requirements detailed on the bottom of the device. For comprehensive power supply specifications, refer to the "Specifications" section. Verifone recommends the PWR572-001-xx-A power supply. If there is any discrepancy, obtain the appropriately rated power supply before proceeding further with troubleshooting activities.

### Victa Full Feature Base Connection Modes

The handset maintains a distinct base control channel. When docked, the Victa Portable/Mobile communicates over USB. When undocked, it switches automatically to Bluetooth connection.

Also, there are 2 ways of using the Victa Full Feature Base.

## Secure Pairing Options

The Victa Full Feature Base supports USB-authenticated pairing system.

### Entering and Leaving Base radio area

Android Terminals use a **Captive Portal check** to verify internet connectivity whenever a new network connection is established.

When a Terminal moves **out of a Base's coverage area**, it attempts to restore data connectivity using **lower-priority connections**, such as Wi-Fi or Cellular (if these options are configured and available).

When the Terminal **re-enters the Base's coverage area**, it automatically attempts to **reconnect to the Base via Bluetooth (BT)**.

### Connection to Terminal (Docked & Undocked)

Physical docking between the **Victa Terminal** and the **FF Base** is supported through **pogo pins**. Docking is established using **Bluetooth (BT) pairing**, and communication between the Terminal and the Base takes place via **BT profile protocols**.

* By default, when the Terminal is **docked** and an **Ethernet cable** is connected to the FF Base, the Ethernet connection is shared with the Terminal through the pogo pins in **bridge mode**.
* When the Terminal is **undocked**, the Ethernet connection is shared with the Terminal via the **BT-PAN interface**.

## BT Connection

The Victa Full Feature Base features an integrated Bluetooth radio transceiver, allowing wireless communication. This capability provides the Victa Full Feature Base with flexible, cable-free connectivity options, ideal for dynamic retail and service environments.

The Victa Full Feature Base features a simple LED indication of the bluetooth pairing status:

* Blinking Blue: Pairing
* Solid Blue: Paired

### BT Profiles

The Base maintains a Bluetooth connection with the Terminal if the Terminal has been previously paired and connected using a specific BT profile.

Different Bluetooth profiles are utilized to support the various **external connectors.**

The UUID table for Victa FF Base is as follows:

### Base BT-PAN modes

* Router mode: The Terminal is assigned a **local IP address** by the Base.
* Bridge mode: The Terminal can be accessed from external networks through **incoming messages**.

### Data Transfer through FF base

### Base Control Channel

The Terminal maintains a **dedicated control channel** with the Base. The **Base Control application** on the Terminal connects to this channel using **Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP)**.

When multiple Terminals are paired with the Base, the Terminal that is **selected within the application** is granted access to the control channel. **Only one Terminal can connect to the control channel at any given time.**

**The control channel supports the following internal operations:**

* **Configuration**: Switch between **Router** and **Bridge** modes
* **Software Information**: Retrieve Base software version details
* **Serial Port Configuration**
* **Other internal management operations**

### Connection Handover

**Routing Preferences**

* When the Terminal is **docked** or **undocked**, the preferred connection is B**ase Ethernet**, provided via:
  * **ETH0** when the device is docked, with option to use BT-only via configuration.
  * **BT-PAN** when the device is undocked.
* When the Terminal moves **outside the Base radio coverage**, it automatically falls back to available communication options based on configured priorities and network availability:
  * **Highest priority (unmetered)**: Wi-Fi
  * **Next priority (metered)**: Cellular, in the order **4G -> 3G -> 2G**

### Bluetooth and Peripheral Connection Status

* The **Bluetooth connection status** is indicated by an icon in the **Android notification bar.**

The following information is available for viewing:

### Loss of Data Connectivity Examples

The following examples illustrate the Terminal's connectivity behaviour, including scenarios in which the Base temporarily loses and later restores its internet connection. In all examples, the Base is configured to operate in **Bridge Mode.**

### Transitions Between Docked and Undocked States

When using **Bluetooth (all profiles),** the connection is maintained during both docking and undocking events.

Currently, when a single Terminal is used with **two FF Bases,** and the Terminal is moved from **Base B1 to Base B2** and then undocked, the **BT-PAN connection to the most recently paired Base** is re-established.

**Scenario 1: Transition Between Two Bases**

**Preconditions**

* Two FF Bases (**B1** and **B2**) are available
* An Ethernet cable is connected to each Base
* Both Bases are configured in **Router Mode**

**Steps**

* Dock the Terminal on **B1**.
* Verify the Terminal IP address in **Diagnostics -> Network Information**.
* Remove the Terminal from **B1** and dock it on **B2**.
* Verify the Terminal IP address again in **Diagnostics -> Network Information**.
* Remove the Terminal from **B2** and check which Base the Terminal connects to using:
  * **Base Control application**, or
  * **Settings ->Connected Devices**

**Actual Result**

* When the Terminal is moved from **B1 to B2,** and then undocked, the connection to the **last paired Base (B2)** is maintained, and the **IP address assigned by B2** continues to be used.
* When the Terminal is removed from **B2** and then docked on **B1,** the connection to the **last paired Base (B2)** is still maintained, while the **ETH0 interface via pogo pins** becomes active.

**Switching Ethernet connection from pogo pins to Wi-Fi:**

**Preconditions:**

* Terminal is docked to the Base
* Wi-Fi is enabled
* Ethernet cable is connected to the FF Base
* Terminal gets IP address from docked base via USB Pogo pins

**Steps:**

* Disconnect ethernet cable on the Base

**Actual Result:** Terminal falls back to Wi-Fi connection within \~45 sec.

**Switching Ethernet Connection from BT-PAN to Wi-Fi**

**Preconditions**

* Wi-Fi is enabled
* Ethernet cable is connected to the FF Base
* Terminal is connected to the Base but not docked
* Terminal uses BT-PAN for connectivity

**Steps**

* Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Base

**Actual Result:** The Terminal falls back to a Wi-Fi connection within approximately 30 seconds.

### Power Management

The Base does not implement power management and operates continuously in active mode.

#### Dock the handset on the Base

After a few seconds, the **blue LED** on the Base begins flashing, and a **Pairing Request** notification appears on the Terminal.

#### Pair the handset

Tap **"Pair and Request",** and on the next screen, tap **"Pair."**

#### Confirm the connection

Once pairing is complete, the handset automatically connects to the Base. The **blue LED remains solid,** indicating a successful connection.

### Base software update

Dock the Terminal on the Base. Verify that an **Ethernet icon** is displayed and that the default IP address **(192.168.138.2)** is assigned to the **Pogo Pins (Ethernet over USB)** interface.

The update can also be performed via **BT-PAN**; however, when docked, the update process is significantly faster.

#### Launch Base Manager

If the Terminal is already connected to the Base, select the connected Base. If not, choose the paired Base; the Terminal will connect and proceed to the **Base Settings** screen.

#### Update the database

On the next screen, select the update file. The file is transferred to the Base, installed, and the Base reboots automatically. After the update completes successfully, verify the software version by selecting **"Software Information"** on the B**ase Settings** screen.

## ECR Connection

Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB-B port on the Victa Full Feature Base, and connect the other end to the ECR.

Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB-A port on the Victa Full Feature Base, and connect the other end to the scanner.
