# Device Setup

This chapter describes the setup and installation procedures for the **Victa Lane** and includes the following sections:

* [Environmental & Safety Guidelines](#environmental-and-safety-guidelines)
* [PIN Protection Measures](#pin-protection-measures)
* [Inside the Shipping Carton](#inside-the-shipping-carton)
* [Device Features](#device-features)
* [Installing Micro SIM/SAM/SD Card](#installing-the-micro-sim-sam-and-sd-cards)
* [Establishing Connections](#establishing-connections)
* [Victa Lane Transactions](#victa-lane-transactions)

## Environmental & Safety Guidelines

Follow these guidelines to ensure safe installation and reliable operation of the device:

* Install the device in a clean, dry, and customer-accessible location, away from excessive heat, dust, humidity, moisture, chemicals, oils, and sources of magnetic interference.
* Avoid direct sunlight, heat-emitting equipment, and unstable surfaces to prevent equipment damage or personal injury.
* Keep the device away from water and do not place it on unstable carts, stands, or tables.
* Read and understand all safety instructions before installing the device. Do not proceed if any instructions or warnings are unclear.
* Do not install or operate the device if any components are missing or damaged. Improper installation or misuse may result in equipment damage, personal injury, or warranty invalidation.
* Use only Verifone-approved accessories and power supplies to minimize the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.

## PIN Protection Measures

To help protect cardholder PIN confidentiality during PIN entry:

* Position the device to prevent unauthorized observation of the PIN-entry process.
* Adjust the device angle to minimize the risk of shoulder surfing.
* Ensure in-store security cameras are positioned so that the PIN-entry keypad is not visible.

## Inside the Shipping Carton

Open the shipping carton and carefully inspect the contents for signs of tampering or shipping damage. A tampered or damaged device may not function correctly or may operate in an insecure manner.

{% hint style="info" %}
**NOTE:** The power supply, connectivity cables, and the Victa Lane countertop base can be ordered separately. Refer to the **Accessories** chapter for part numbers and ordering information.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/hardware-products/hardware/victa/victa-lane/victa-lane-installation-guide/device-setup.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
