# Wrong Z or X Reports

Why your P400 Two-Piece Z-report might be missing transactions, how Z and X reports work, and how to take your end-of-day Z-report correctly.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this page when** your end-of-day Z-report is missing transactions, the totals don't match what you expected, or you're not sure whether to use a Z-report or an X-report.

## Symptoms

You may see one or more of the following:

* Your Z-report is missing one or more transactions.
* The totals on your Z-report don't match the day's sales.

**Why this happens:** the Z-report resets your transaction totals. If a payment is taken **after** the Z-report has been printed, it won't be included in that day's report.

## How the Z-report works

* Take the Z-report **once a day, after your last payment of the day**.
* The Z-report **resets your transaction totals**.
* The Z-report **doesn't reset automatically** — you need to take it manually every day.
* The Z-report **doesn't send transactions for settlement**. Your transactions are sent automatically for settlement around **midnight**.

## How the X-report works

An X-report **doesn't reset your transaction totals**. You can take as many X-reports as you like during the day without affecting your totals.

The X-report shows the **number of transactions** and the **total amount since your last Z-report**. You can use it to check, during the day:

* How many transactions have been completed.
* The total transaction amount.
* The current sales total since the last Z-report.

{% hint style="success" %}
Taking an X-report **doesn't affect the Z-report** or reset any totals.
{% endhint %}

## Resolution

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Check when the Z-report was taken

Check whether any payments were taken **after** the Z-report was printed. These payments won't appear on that day's Z-report.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** take an **X-report** to see the transactions and total since your last Z-report — it won't reset anything.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Take another Z-report before the next business day

If payments were taken after the Z-report, take **another Z-report before you start the next business day**. This makes sure all transactions are included. See [How to Print End of Day Reports](/support-nordics/p400-two-piece-sa/how-tos/how-to-print-end-of-day-reports.md).

✅ **Totals now correct — stop here.** ❌ **Totals still don't match — contact Support below.**
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
**To avoid this in future:** always take your Z-report **after** the final payment of the day. Use X-reports for any checks during the day.
{% endhint %}

**If the totals now match.** No further action needed.

**If the totals still don't match.** Contact Support below.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-nordics/p400-two-piece-sa/errors/wrong-z-or-x-reports.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
