# Terminal Setup (Out of Box)

Set up a T650 Two-Piece (T650C + P400) for the first time — language, network, Device ID, and updates.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this when** you're setting up your T650 Two-Piece (T650C + P400) for the first time, straight out of the box.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Before you complete this setup, the **Serial Number** and **Device ID** will not yet be linked. This linking happens automatically once you finish the setup process on the T650C and enter the Device ID.
{% endhint %}

## Before you start

* Connect the **P400** to the **T650C**, and plug the T650C's **USB-C power cable** into the mains — see [How to Connect the Cables](/support-nordics/t650-two-piece/how-tos/how-to-connect-the-cables.md).
* Have your **welcome email** ready — it contains your **Device ID** and QR code.

You set everything up on the **T650C**. The **P400** gets its power and network connection from the T650C, so it starts up with it.

## Set up the terminal

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Power on the T650C

Hold the **power button** on the T650C to switch it on.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Select your language

The first screen displays language options. Select your preferred language.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Set up the network

The T650C shows available Wi-Fi networks.

* **Using Wi-Fi:** select your network, enter the Wi-Fi password, and tap **Next**.
* **Using Ethernet:** once the network cable is connected to the T650C, you'll be able to tap **Next**.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Enter your Device ID

Either scan the QR code from your welcome email, or manually enter your Device ID.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you are unsure of your Device ID, <mark style="color:red;">contact the Helpdesk</mark>.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Wait for updates

The T650C merges with your account and checks for updates. Allow it to complete all updates — **do not turn it off or unplug either unit during this process.**

{% hint style="warning" %}
Stuck on **"Checking for updates"**? See [Searching for Updates](/support-nordics/t650-two-piece/errors/searching-for-updates.md).
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Ready to use

Once updates are complete, the T650C restarts. You'll either go directly to the sale screen, or be prompted to set up [manager and cashier passcodes](/support-nordics/t650-two-piece/how-tos/how-to-set-up-manager-and-cashier-passcodes.md). The P400 is then ready for your customers to use.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-nordics/t650-two-piece/how-tos/terminal-setup-out-of-box.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
