# How to Assign a Static IP Address

Set a fixed (static) IP address on your V400M when it's connected to your till system in Server mode.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this when** your V400M is connected to your till system (ECR) in **Server mode** and needs a fixed (static) IP address.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
**You only need to do this if your terminal is in Server mode.** If you're not sure, ask your ECR provider or <mark style="color:red;">contact Verifone Support</mark>.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="success" %}
**Why use a static IP address?** A static IP address is a good solution if your terminal often loses connection with your till system and you find yourself updating the terminal's IP address in your till system's (ECR) settings.

Without a static IP address, your router can give the terminal a new IP address — for example, after a power cut or when the router's IP address lease runs out. A static IP address stays the same, so your terminal stays connected.
{% endhint %}

## Before you start

Check the terminal's current network details first — you'll use them in Step 4. See [How to Check the Network Information](/support-nordics/v400m-integrated/how-tos/how-to-check-the-network-information.md) and note the **\[IPv4] IP Address**, **\[IPv4] Netmask**, and **\[IPv4] Gateway**.

{% hint style="info" %}
**How to enter addresses:** each part of the address must have **3 digits**, and you don't type the dots. For example, **192.168.1.10** is entered as **192 168 001 010**.
{% endhint %}

## Set a static IP address

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open the communication settings

1. Press **4** and **6** at the same time, then enter password **1234** and press the **green button**.
2. Select **Administration > Settings > Communication**.
3. Select **Wi-Fi**, then tap **Configuration**.
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Open your Wi-Fi network's IP settings

1. Tap your Wi-Fi network, then select **View/Edit**.
2. Go to **IP Setting** and tap **IPv4**.
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Turn off automatic IP

Tap **DHCP** and set it to **No**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Enter your network details

Tap each option below, enter the address, then press the **green button**:

1. **IP Address** — the address shown on the **\[IPv4] IP Address** line.
2. **Netmask** — the address shown on the **\[IPv4] Netmask** line.
3. **DNS 1** — the address shown on the **\[IPv4] Gateway** line.
4. **DNS 2** — enter `001.001.001.001`.
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Save the settings

Save the settings and press the **red button** until you're back on the start screen.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="success" %}
**Check it worked:** see [How to Check the Network Information](/support-nordics/v400m-integrated/how-tos/how-to-check-the-network-information.md). The terminal should show the same IP address and **UP**.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
If your till system (ECR) connects to the terminal using its IP address, make sure it's using this IP address. Contact your **ECR provider** if you need help.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-nordics/v400m-integrated/how-tos/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
