# How to Connect to the ECR

Connect your V400M to your till system (ECR) by entering your till system's IP address.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this when** you need to connect your V400M to your till system (ECR) — for example, after setting up the terminal for the first time.
{% endhint %}

## Before you start

{% hint style="warning" %}

* The terminal must be connected to the **same Wi-Fi network as your till system** — see [How to Set Up Wi-Fi](/support-nordics/v400m-integrated/how-tos/how-to-set-up-wi-fi.md).
* You'll need the **IP address your till system uses**. To get it, **contact your ECR (till system) provider**.
  {% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**How to enter the IP address:** use the **number keys** for the digits and the **\*** key for each dot.
{% endhint %}

## Connect the terminal to your till system

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Log out of your till system

Log out of your till system before you start.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Enter your till system's IP address

1. Press **4** and **6** at the same time, then enter password **1234** and press the **green button**.
2. Select **Administration > Settings > ECR > Set ECR Address**.
3. Enter the IP address you got from your ECR provider, then press the **green button**.
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

1. Select **Choose comm. Device**.
2. Tap **Wifi**.
3. Press the **red button** until you're out of the menu.
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Log back in to your till system

Log in to your till system again. The terminal screen should now show **"Terminal Klar"** (Terminal ready).

If it doesn't, wait a few seconds. If it still doesn't show, check the steps above or see the troubleshooting tips below.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Make a test purchase

1. Start a purchase on your till system and choose **Card** as the payment method.
2. The purchase should appear on the terminal, asking you to confirm the amount.

✅ **The purchase appears on the terminal — your terminal and till system are connected.**
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Change the till system's IP address

If your till system's IP address changes, update it on the terminal:

1. Press **4** and **6** at the same time, then enter password **1234** and press the **green button**.
2. Select **Administration > Settings > ECR > Set ECR Address**.
3. Delete the old IP address using the **yellow button**.
4. Enter the new IP address, then press the **green button**.

## If the terminal won't connect to your till system

* Check the terminal is connected to the **same network** as your till system.
* Check the **IP address** you entered is correct.
* Restart the terminal and the till system together: turn off the till system, restart the terminal (see [How to Reboot the Terminal](/support-nordics/v400m-integrated/how-tos/how-to-reboot-the-terminal.md)), then start the till system again.
* Still not connecting? Contact your **ECR provider**, or <mark style="color:red;">contact Verifone Support</mark>.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-nordics/v400m-integrated/how-tos/how-to-connect-to-the-ecr.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
