# How to Reboot the Terminal

Restart your V400M from the menu, by turning it off and on, or by taking out the battery.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this when** you need to restart your V400M — for example, if it's slow, frozen, or a guide asks you to restart it.
{% endhint %}

Restarting the terminal is the first thing to try, whatever the problem. There are three ways to do it:

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="From the menu" %}

1. Press **4** and **6** at the same time, then enter password **1234** and press the **green button**.
2. Select **Administration > Restart Terminal**.
3. Wait for the terminal to restart.
   {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Turn off and on" %}

1. Hold down the **red button** for about **7 seconds**, until the screen goes dark.
2. Wait **10–15 seconds**.
3. Hold down the **green button** until the screen lights up.
   {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Take out the battery" %}
Use this if the terminal is frozen and won't respond.

1. Open the hatch on the back of the terminal.
2. Take out the **battery** — use the tape tab at the bottom of the battery to lift it out.
3. Unplug the **power cable**, if it's connected.
4. Wait **10–15 seconds**.
5. Put the battery back in, close the hatch, and wait for the terminal to start up.
   {% endtab %}
   {% endtabs %}

## Restart the till system and terminal together

If the problem is still there after restarting the terminal, restart both together:

1. Turn off your till system.
2. Restart the terminal by **taking out the battery** (see the tab above).
3. Start your till system again and try again.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If your terminal won't start after restarting, see [Won't Start](/support-nordics/v400m-integrated/errors/wont-start.md).
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-nordics/v400m-integrated/how-tos/how-to-reboot-the-terminal.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
