# Wrong Credentials

What to do when your V400M shows Wrong Credentials while connecting to Wi-Fi — correct the saved Wi-Fi password.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this page when** your terminal shows **Wrong Credentials** while connecting to Wi-Fi, or won't connect after you've entered the Wi-Fi password.
{% endhint %}

Keywords

Also called: wrong credentials, wrong Wi-Fi password, incorrect password, Wi-Fi won't connect, authentication failed. Search terms: wrong credentials, credentials, Wi-Fi, wifi, password, PSK, pre-shared key, can't connect.

## Symptoms

You may see one or more of the following:

* The terminal shows **Wrong Credentials** when connecting to Wi-Fi.
* The terminal doesn't show **"Network started"** after you've entered the Wi-Fi password.

**Why this happens:** the Wi-Fi password saved on the terminal is incorrect — for example, it was mistyped, or your Wi-Fi password has changed.

## Before you start

{% hint style="warning" %}
Have your **correct Wi-Fi password** ready. Wi-Fi passwords are case sensitive, so check capital and small letters carefully.
{% endhint %}

## Resolution

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Enter the correct Wi-Fi password

Update the Wi-Fi password saved on the terminal — see [How to Change the Wi-Fi Password](/support-nordics/v400m/how-tos/how-to-change-the-wi-fi-password.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Check the connection

The screen should show **"Network started"** with a **green tick**.

✅ **Network started — stop here.** ❌ **Still not connecting — continue to Step 3.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Check your Wi-Fi network is working

* Try connecting another device, such as your phone, to the same Wi-Fi.
* If you don't have another internet connection, you can test the terminal using your mobile phone's **personal hotspot** — see [How to Set Up Wi-Fi](/support-nordics/v400m/how-tos/how-to-set-up-wi-fi.md).

✅ **Connected — stop here.** ❌ **Still not connecting — continue to Step 4.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Contact Verifone Support

If the terminal still won't connect, contact Verifone Support. We may need to check your terminal's Wi-Fi security settings.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

**If the terminal shows "Network started".** It's connected and ready to use.

**If it still won't connect.** Contact Support below.

## Still not working?

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-nordics/v400m/errors/wrong-credentials.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
