# How to Reboot the Terminal

Restart your V400M from the menu, or by turning it off and on with the red and green buttons.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this when** you need to restart your V400M — for example, if it's slow, frozen, or a guide asks you to restart it.
{% endhint %}

Restarting the terminal is the first thing to try, whatever the problem. There are two ways to do it:

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="From the menu" %}

1. Press **4** and **6** at the same time, then enter password **1234** and press the **green button**.
2. Select **Administration > Restart Terminal**.
3. Wait for the terminal to restart.
   {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Turn off and on" %}
The V400M is a portable terminal, so make sure it isn't on charge while you do this.

1. Take the terminal **off charge** — unplug the charger.
2. Hold down the **red button** for about **7 seconds**, until the screen goes dark.
3. Wait **10–15 seconds**.
4. Hold down the **green button** until the screen lights up.
   {% endtab %}
   {% endtabs %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
If your terminal won't start after restarting, see [Won't Start](/support-nordics/v400m/errors/wont-start.md).
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-nordics/v400m/how-tos/how-to-reboot-the-terminal.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
