# Network Troubleshooting

This section includes information about different network errors and how to solve for them.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this when** a device shows a network, communication, or connection error and you need a starting point for troubleshooting.
{% endhint %}

## Symptoms

* A network, communication, or connection error on the device

## Resolve the issue

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Check the internet service

Verify the site has an internet connection. Without one, devices can fail to install or process transactions.

✅ **Issue fixed — stop here.** ❌ **Still not working — continue to the next step.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Check the hardware connection

Verify all peripherals connected to the device are securely plugged in. Re-seat anything loose.

✅ **Issue fixed — stop here.** ❌ **Still not working — continue to the next step.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Check the network configuration

Verify all required network details are set correctly — IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, DNS1, and DNS2. If any are incorrect, adjust them using the correct values from your Level 1 Helpdesk, Merchant Services Provider, or Verifone.

✅ **Issue fixed — stop here.** ❌ **Still not working — continue to escalation below.**
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Seeing a specific error?

{% hint style="info" %}
If the device is showing "Comm Error" or "Communication Error" specifically, see [Comm Error](/support-us/network-configurations-and-errors/network-troubleshooting/comm-error.md) for targeted troubleshooting.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-us/network-configurations-and-errors/network-troubleshooting.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
