# Wi-Fi

This section includes general information about devices that utilize the wifi set up option.

## What is Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi is a type of network configuration that lets a device connect to a location's internet service remotely. Verifone devices using Wi-Fi commonly require an SSID (Service Set Identifier) from the internet service provider.

A terminal is set up with either a Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection, depending on the terminal type, and in either DHCP or Static mode depending on your company's preferred method — most sites use Static for added security.

* **DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol):** automatically assigns IP addresses and other configuration settings — subnet mask, default gateway, DNS servers — to devices on the network.
* **Static:** a permanent setup assigned to a device. Unlike DHCP, the IP address is fixed, using provided IPs, subnet mask, DNS servers, and gateway.

To get the SSID or network configuration values to use, contact your Level 1 Helpdesk, IT support, Merchant Services Provider, or the Verifone Helpdesk.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-us/network-configurations-and-errors/wi-fi.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
