# e285 Wi-Fi Configuration

Configure Wi-Fi on an E285 device.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this when** you need to connect or update the Wi-Fi configuration on an E285 device.
{% endhint %}

## Setup

{% hint style="warning" %}
Before you start, make sure your company Helpdesk or IT point of contact is available — they'll need to verify the POS settings and the SSID (Service Set Identifier) you should use.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Before pairing the E285 with the POS, verify the SSID in use at your site with your Helpdesk or IT point of contact. Use only one specific Wi-Fi configuration — guest Wi-Fi networks aren't recommended, for PCI compliance reasons.

* Ask for the current SSID (Wi-Fi name) in use at the site, and have them retrieve the site's Wi-Fi router configuration.
* Confirm the POS is connected to that same SSID.
* Run an IP configuration search on the POS with your Helpdesk or IT contact to confirm all IP settings match the SSID in use. **All** IP settings must match, or the device won't pair.
  {% endhint %}

## Change the Wi-Fi settings

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open Comm Control

Press `1`, `5`, and `9` simultaneously, twice, to open Comm Control. Select **Supervisor** and enter the default password or your company's specific password.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Check the current Wi-Fi name

Go to **Administration** → **Communication** → **Wi-Fi** to see the Wi-Fi name currently set on the device.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If the Wi-Fi configuration already matches, **do not change it.**
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Update the configuration, if needed

If it needs updating, use the Wi-Fi configuration your Helpdesk or IT contact gave you. Select the Wi-Fi or IP setting to adjust, click **OK**, then **Apply**. A green checkmark confirms a successful Wi-Fi connection.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Exit

Use the red **X** button to back out to the main screen.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Guidelines

* **Keypad setup:** use the **#** (pound) key to toggle between capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters — the active mode shows to the left of the text bar. To enter special characters like `* & !`, switch to lowercase mode and use the **0** key.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-us/network-configurations-and-errors/wi-fi/e285-wi-fi-configuration.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
