# Deactivating a User

Deactivate a My Users, Reseller Users, or Merchant Users account without deleting it.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this when** you need to remove a user's access without deleting their account.
{% endhint %}

Deactivation does not delete the user — you can reactivate the user later. See [Reactivating a User](/support-us/payware-connect/user-management/reseller-portal/reactivating-a-user.md) to restore access.

## Deactivate a user

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open User Manager

Go to **Account Admin** → **User Manager**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Choose the user group

Select **My Users**, **Reseller Users**, or **Merchant Users**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Select the user

Find the user in **User Search/Maintenance**. Users are sorted alphabetically by User ID; select a column header to sort by that field. Select the user's row, then click **DeActivate**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Confirm the deactivation

Confirm the deactivation. An **X** in the second column confirms the user is deactivated. See [Reactivating a User](/support-us/payware-connect/user-management/reseller-portal/reactivating-a-user.md) to restore access.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-us/payware-connect/user-management/reseller-portal/deactivating-a-user.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
