# VHQ Device Search
This section discusses the Devices Search feature in VHQ as well as a demonstrational video on the Device Search feature.

## What is Device Search?
**Device Search** allows you to tailor search results in a specific way. The search feature categorizes your search options in a single location, providing a more flexible way of searching. You can select devices from multiple hierarchies, models, with different combinations of attributes, and further customize the existing search criteria or create new criteria — saving the search criteria for future use. The *Device Search* screen provides pagination control to browse from page to page to continue reading through the larger data.
When you log in for the first time, the five mandatory columns (*Serial No*, *Device ID*, *Model*, *Device Status* and *Last Heartbeat*) and 13 default columns are displayed. On customizing the search, by default, the first five columns (*Serial No*, *Device ID*, *Model*, *Device Status* and *Last Heartbeat*) in the *Device Search* screen will always be displayed.
In addition to the above listed default columns, you can view 15 more columns based on the selection made in *Show/Hide Columns*. In the *Device Search* screen, select the needed columns from the **Show/Hide Columns** option and click **OK**. The selected columns are added to the *Device Search* screen.
The search result screen will display a maximum of 20 columns (including the default and searched attribute columns). In the *Device Search* screen, the customized columns are arranged in alphabetical order, followed by the mandatory columns. A maximum of 15 columns can be selected, even from the *Show/Hide* columns. If the user tries to select the 16th column, an existing column from the *Show/Hide* columns in the *Device Search* screen must be unchecked in order to add a new column. VHQ saves your default and customized columns for future sessions.

Verifone SSO users can now access the *Device Search* and *Device Profile* screens from the EO portal. On selecting the **Devices** tab in the EO portal, a redirection to the VHQ *Device Search* screen on a new tab will happen, where devices can be searched and the device profile can also be viewed. Credentials do not need to be re-entered while moving from EO to VHQ.

## Searching a device
1. Go to **Device Search** to search for devices. If you are performing the search for the first time, or if there is no data available, a pop-up will be displayed to search for devices by **Hierarchy** or **Group**. By default, the *Hierarchy* radio button is selected.
2. Narrow down your search with two different types of view:
* **List View**: Displays a list of scrollable items.
* **Tree View**: Presents a hierarchical view of items.
3. Whenever you submit a search, a pop-up message appears indicating your search is in progress. Click *Cancel* if you want to cancel your search and return to the *Device Search* screen.
4. You can search devices by:
* Hierarchy, group or additional attributes
* Saved search

Apart from *Reports*, the search criteria display the searched text based on the device search. However, in *Reports*, the search criteria display the search result based on column filter and device search.

## Device search via CSV upload
The limitation of search criteria (500 records) is now enhanced to accommodate up to 20,000 devices. The CSV input file-based filtering provides the search criteria to display multiple devices, catering to up to 20,000 devices. Go to **VHQ** > **Device Search** to search up to 20,000 devices through CSV input for the given criteria.
## Quick search
The **Quick Search** feature enables you to swiftly locate a specific device's profile or a list of devices. The search operates on a specified criterion, which can include a serial number or a device ID, with support for wildcard searches. Go to **VHQ** > **Dashboard** > **Quick Search** to search for a device quickly.
