# Saved search

This section discusses the saved search attribute available in the Device Search feature.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this when** you want to reuse a search you run frequently, instead of rebuilding the criteria each time.
{% endhint %}

Saved searches are groups of search parameters for searches that run continuously to meet the search criteria in a drop-down list. They are an efficient way to save time and typing on searches you run frequently. There are two types of saved searches:

* **Private** — makes the search visible only to you.
* **Public** — makes the search visible to everyone.

## Use a saved search

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Select a saved search

Select a saved search from the drop-down and click **Go** to view the desired search result in the *Device Search* screen.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Adjust the search, if needed

On selecting a saved search from the drop-down, the *Search Criteria* section auto-populates the existing search. You can add, update, or edit the search by adding more attributes, hierarchies, or groups. You can also edit the name of the search and make it *Private* or *Public* — editing the name does not create a new saved search, it relabels the existing one.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Save your changes

Click **Save** to update the saved search. The *Save* button only activates when you edit or update the search's attributes, hierarchies, groups, name, or visibility. Selecting **Apply Filter** before saving will display only the filtered result.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-us/verifone-hq/vhq-device-search/saved-search.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
