# Configuring parameter templates

This section discusses configuring Parameter templates in VHQ.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Use this when** you need to create a reusable set of parameter values that can be applied to an application across devices.
{% endhint %}

A **parameter template** provides a convenient way to manage parameters that apply to an application.

{% hint style="info" %}
TCP/IP communication parameters for a group of devices in a store (or region) may be common. Instead of configuring these parameters for each application individually, you can define a *Parameter Template* that sets values for all TCP/IP communication parameters and assign it to the required applications.
{% endhint %}

You can change the values of the parameters in a template, and the change applies to all associated applications. A template can define values for some or all of an application's parameters, and you can configure one or more templates per application.

## Open parameter templates for an application

Before you begin, ensure the application's parameter form view file (PFX) is already configured.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open the Applications Library

Go to **Device Management** > **Manage Downloads** > **Applications Library**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Click Configure

Click **Configure** under the *Parameter Templates* column for the selected application.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Review the templates list

The *Parameter Templates for Application* screen lists each template, the hierarchy it belongs to, and its description. From here you can add, edit, delete, and copy parameter templates.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-us/verifone-hq/vhq-parameter-management/configuring-parameter-templates.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
