# Applications

This section discusses application management in VHQ.

## What is an application in VHQ?

Based on the device platform, various packaging tools and procedures are followed that define the packaging structure and content of software packages.

For eVo-based devices, VPI packages (.ZIP) are used. Each application is a .ZIP file. Multiple application files are compressed to create a VPI package, which also contains supporting files such as the manifest file — this defines the order in which the applications should be unzipped on the device after the VPI package is downloaded.

For V/OS-based devices, software bundles and bundles of bundles are used. Each application is a .tar file. Multiple applications are grouped to form a package, and multiple packages are grouped to form a bundle.

You can configure software packages by importing VPI packages and bundles. VHQ processes these packages to extract and set up the applications, pulling the application name and version from specific metadata files based on the package type. See the [Software package](/support-us/verifone-hq/vhq-software-management/software-package.md) reference for more information.

The same application could be packaged as part of different software packages.

## Viewing applications

Go to **Device Management** > **Manage Downloads** > **Applications Library**.

The grid lists all applications set up on VHQ and the parent packages they belong to. You can upload individual applications directly from the *Applications* tab. Applications extracted from software packages can't be edited or deleted — you can only edit and delete applications uploaded directly through the *Application Library* tab.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-us/verifone-hq/vhq-software-management/software-package/applications.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
