# VPI Package

This section discusses the VPI Package in VHQ.

Also called: VPI packaging, eVo package. Search terms: manifest file, VPI package installer.

## What is a VPI Package?

A VPI Package (.ZIP) is a collection of one or more applications. Each application (.ZIP) is downloaded as a single unit on eVo-based devices.

In the example below, a main VPI Package (MainVPI.ZIP) contains two applications (Application1.ZIP and Application2.ZIP).

<figure><img src="https://600591075-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FHUGEtJbVPg5OkUtYCm8j%2Fuploads%2FGV6F9OQMjkGHUpeWvpuA%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=c310402f-50cc-4f6e-98bc-0166c13ac34b" alt="VPI Package structure example"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The VPI package can be imported into VHQ and set up as a VHQ package. The contained applications (Application1.ZIP and Application2.ZIP) are extracted and set up as VHQ applications. Manifest File#0 defines the package name and version; Manifest File#1 and Manifest File#2 define the application name and version for Application1.ZIP and Application2.ZIP, respectively.

VPI packages are built by the corresponding SE (Sales Executive) using VPI package installers.

{% hint style="info" %}

* For devices enabled for automated download, VHQ compares the application name and version defined in the manifest files against the application name and version reported by the device, and downloads applications that don't match.
* Only VPI packages that have manifest files qualify for automated downloads.
* Only VHQ packages qualified for automated download are available when creating a reference set.
  {% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/support-us/verifone-hq/vhq-software-management/vpi-package.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
