# Asset tracking

**Asset Tracking** feature in **Device Management** is used to track the asset in each stage of the Device life cycle through a streamlined process.

Deploying the devices on **Device Management** is a two-step process, onboarding and registering.

1. **Onboarding** the device is entering the device details on Device Management. **The devices can be onboarded on Device Management through various modes, P2PE-Asset Tracking is one of the modes to onboard the device details on Device Management.**

{% hint style="info" %}
Once the order is shipped from the Verifone store, the asset is tracked till it reaches the deployment centre. The device details of the custodian, location and periodic inspection details of the device are updated on **Verifone Central – Device Management** periodically by the respective custodian till the device is deployed. Once the device is deployed the connection is established with the server.
{% endhint %}

2. **Registering** the device is establishing or registering itself with **Verifone Central - Device Management server for the first time, which is automatically performed**. The device details along with the hierarchy information are updated in the **Verifone Central - Device Management** during the registration process.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/verifone-central-device-management/verifone-central/asset-tracking.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
