# Hierarchy/group management

**Hierarchies** are the basis of organizing the devices. Hierarchies allow a high degree of flexibility and granularity in organizing devices. Hierarchy is a new feature used as a basis for device organization, it indicates the assigned hierarchy, where the device is placed.

**Hierarchies** feature is used to display a three-column tree view on a landing page to configure hierarchies.

* Extend node is used to add a hierarchy node to a particular node in the hierarchy tree.
* Extend root is used to add one more child hierarchy node to the root node.
