# Import Chain of Custody report data

Bulk update Chain of Custody report data from a template file.

You can save the existing data fields as a template, fill the details, and then upload the file.

### When to use this page

Use this action when many custody records need the same update workflow.

Use it only after you review the template and confirm the changes are correct.

### Before you start

Confirm that:

* you prepared the correct template file
* the file contains only the records you want to update
* the values are reviewed before upload
* you are ready to verify the merge result after processing

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Verify the result

After the file is processed, confirm that:

* the upload completed without unexpected failures
* the intended custody records were updated
* the updated values appear correctly in the report

If the result is incomplete, review the template values before you retry the upload.

### Result

The uploaded file is processed and the Chain of Custody details are updated in bulk.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/verifone-central-device-management/verifone-central/reports/device-management/chain-of-custody-report/import-chain-of-custody-report-data.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
