# Add a location

Create a new location record for chain of custody workflows.

Create a location record.

### Before you start

Confirm that:

* the location does not already exist
* you know the values required by the location form
* the new location should be available in chain of custody workflows

Search the location list first. Use the approved location information when you enter values.

### Add a location

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### 1. Open the add form

Go to **Device Management** → **Locations** → select the **+** icon.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://content.gitbook.com/content/dzivQyj8aHN5Kvmx8apX/blobs/rN17m9zQE2qmhvJozg5S/image.png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### 2. Enter the location details

Enter the required location details. Review the values before saving the record.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://content.gitbook.com/content/dzivQyj8aHN5Kvmx8apX/blobs/RpaQxrOnoZZDrQtSlHvI/image.png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Location configuration changes appear in the **File Chain of Custody** screen.

### View the updated location details

Go to **Device Management** → **Locations**.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://content.gitbook.com/content/dzivQyj8aHN5Kvmx8apX/blobs/H88F4I1otOK1P7DDkoxF/image.png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

### Verify the result

After you save the record, confirm that:

* the new location appears in the location list
* the values are correct
* the location is available for later chain of custody use
* the new record did not duplicate an existing location

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.verifone.com/verifone-central-getting-started/verifone-central/verifone-central-device-manager/asset-tracking/configure-locations/add-a-location.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
